SUMMARY
1. Only one blessing is recited on the Tefilin, unless one talks between putting on the Tefilin Shel Yad and the Tefilin Shel Rosh. 2. Talking between putting on the Tefilin Shel Yad and the Tefilin Shel Rosh without reciting another blessing on the Tefilin Shel Rosh is an Aveirah which disqualifies the person from participating in a war. 3. The Tefilin Shel Yad are put on before the Tefilin Shel Rosh. The Tefilin Shel Rosh are removed before the Tefilin Shel Yad. 4. If one is traveling and is afraid that he will lose his Tefilin, he may put them on before the earliest time for the Mitzvah, before daybreak. He should not recite the blessing until the time for the Mitzvah arrives. 5. One may keep his Tefilin on until sunset, according to the Tana Kama. Rebbi Yakov says he may keep them on until people are no longer outside in the streets. The Chachamim maintain that he may keep them on until he goes to sleep. 6. Rabah bar Rav Huna says that one may not put on Tefilin at dusk on Friday evening. If he was wearing Tefilin during the day, he must remove the Tefilin before nightfall. 7. Rebbi Akiva says that Shabbos and Yom Tov are not time for Tefilin. On those days the "Os" of Tefilin is not needed, because Shabbos and Yom Tov themselves are regarded an "Os." 8. Rebbi Elazar says that anyone who puts on Tefilin after sunset transgresses a Mitzvas Aseh. Rebbi Yochanan maintains that he transgresses a Lo Sa'aseh. 9. When one is wearing Tefilin, he is obligated to touch them constantly in order to ensure that he does not take his mind off of them. 10. The Tefilin Shel Yad must be placed on the left arm.

A BIT MORE
1. One recites the blessing of "l'Hani'ach Tefilin" when he puts on the Tefilin Shel Yad. If one talks before he puts on the Tefilin Shel Rosh, he must recite the blessing of "Al Mitzvas Tefilin" on the Tefilin Shel Rosh. 2. The Torah states that one who is fearful may not participate in a war. The Chachamim teach that this is a reference to one who is fearful as a result of his Aveiros. Failing to recite the blessing on the Tefilin Shel Rosh is a sufficient Aveirah for one fear fighting in war. 3. The Chachamim derive the requirement that whenever one is wearing the Tefilin Shel Rosh he also must be wearing the Tefilin Shel Yad. 4. The time for the Mitzvah of Tefilin in the morning is when there is enough light outside to recognize a friend from a distance of four cubits. At that time, he should touch his Tefilin and recite the blessing. 5. According to the Chachamim and Rebbi Yakov, if one removes his Tefilin in order to enter the washroom, he may not put them back on if it is after sunset. 6. Rabah bar Rav Huna recited the Ma'ariv prayer while he was wearing his Tefilin, because he followed the opinion of Rebbi Yakov that nighttime is also the time for Tefilin. Nevertheless, Shabbos is not the time for Tefilin. 7. According to Rebbi Akiva, nighttime is a time for Tefilin, and only Shabbos and Yom Tov are excluded from the Mitzvah of Tefilin. 8. However, Rebbi Elazar says that one is permitted to put on Tefilin after sunset for the purpose of guarding them. 9. This is derived through a Kal va'Chomer from the Tzitz. If the Kohen Gadol is obligated to keep his mind on the Tzitz constantly even though it has only one name of Hashem, then certainly one is obligated to keep his mind on the Tefilin constantly since the Tefilin contains many names of Hashem. 10. However, a left-handed person wears the Tefilin on his right arm.
