SUMMARY
1. The amount of money a person is set to earn is decided by Hashem from year to year. 2. The exception to this rule (#1) is expenses for Shabbos, Yom Tov, and tuition for teaching his sons Torah. 3. The Gemara describes how Shamai often ate for the honor of Shabbos, even during the week. 4. Hillel did not conduct himself in this manner (#3). 5. A person receives a "Neshamah Yeseirah" ("an extra soul") before Shabbos, and it leaves him after Shabbos (see Rashi).

A BIT MORE
1. A person, therefore, should not spend his money wastefully, as he will not receive more than what was allotted to him. 2. This money is not included in the allotted amount he was set to earn for the year, and he will get this amount back regardless of how much he was supposed to earn that year. 3. If he would find a nice piece of meat during the week, he would save it for Shabbos, unless he would find a nicer one before Shabbos arrived. If he found a nicer piece, he would eat the former piece during the week to show that the nicer piece is being saved for Shabbos. 4. Rather, Hillel would trust that Hashem would help him find very nice foods for Shabbos when he went shopping for Shabbos food. 5. The Gemara says that this is alluded to In the verse, "Shavas va'Yinafash," which may also be understood as an acronym for "Vai she'Avdah Nefesh" -- "Woe that the soul has been lost." This implies that at the departure of Shabbos, this special "soul" departs as well.
