SUMMARY

When Eretz Yisrael has a blessed year, one Se'ah of seed produces 50,000 Kor of produce.

There is no better land outside of Eretz Yisrael than Mitzrayim, and Tzo'an is the best land of Mitzrayim.

The worst place in Eretz Yisrael is Chevron, and even so Chevron is seven times better than Tzo'an. (1)

The best part of Eretz Yisrael is 500 times better than Mitzrayim. (2)

Eretz Yisrael is compared to a deer: Just like the hide of a deer does not fit over its body, Eretz Yisrael cannot hold its fruit. (3)

Even though the flesh of a deer is not fat, the fruits of Eretz Yisrael are fatter than milk and sweeter than honey.

When Rebbi Zeira went to Eretz Yisrael, he could not find a ferry to cross the Jordan River, and he rushed across on a makeshift bridge.

In the generation that precedes Mashi'ach, there will be much antagonism toward Talmidei Chachamim.

In the generation that precedes Mashi'ach, there will be one decree after another.

All of the barren fruit trees in Eretz Yisrael will one day produce fruit.

A BIT MORE

1. The worst part of Eretz Yisrael is seven times better than Mitzrayim, and the best part of Eretz Yisrael is 500 times better than Mitzrayim.

2. When Eretz Yisrael has a blessed year, it is 50,000 times better than Mitzrayim.

3. It produces so much fruit it cannot hold all of its fruit. It is compared to a deer: Just as a deer is fast on its feet, Eretz Yisrael is fast to ripen its fruit.

BRIEF INSIGHT

THE TIMES OF MASHI'ACH

All of the barren fruit trees in Eretz Yisrael will one day produce fruit. The Torah compares a person to a tree. A Talmid Chacham is analogous to a fruit tree, while an Am ha'Aretz is analogous to a barren tree. When Mashi'ach comes, there no longer will be a concept of an Am ha'Aretz, and that is symbolized by the barren trees producing fruit.

QUICK HALACHAH

THE GREAT MERIT OF LIVING IN ERETZ YISRAEL

The great sages (upon reaching Eretz Yisrael for the first time) would kiss the borders of Eretz Yisrael and kiss its stones and roll in its dirt. (Rambam, Hilchos Melachim 5:12)

The Midrash Tanchuma says that when Rebbi Chanina was traveling to Eretz Yisrael, he wanted to know whether he had reached yet the borders of Eretz Yisrael. He picked up the stones and found them to be heavy. He commented that they must be the stones of Eretz Yisrael and he kissed them. (Lechem Mishnah)
