SUMMARY

1. If one eats Ever Min ha'Chai from one animal and flesh from a Tereifah of another animal at the same time with only one Hasra'ah, everyone agrees that he is Chayav twice.

2. If one eats Ever Min ha'Chai from an animal that is a Tereifah, according to Rebbi Yochanan he is Chayav twice. Reish Lakish maintains that he is Chayav only once.

3. Rava maintains that if one severs a limb from an animal, making it a Tereifah in the process, he is Chayav twice for eating it, according to Rebbi Yochanan. According to Reish Lakish, he is Chayav only once.

4. Rebbi Chiya bar Aba says in the name of Rebbi Yochanan that one who eats Chelev Min ha'Chai of a Tereifah animal is Chayav twice. Rebbi Ami says in the name of Rebbi Yochanan that he is Chayav three times.

5. If one divides an olive's amount of an Ever Min ha'Chai into two pieces before he places it into his mouth, according to Rebbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish he is exempt. Rebbi Eliezer disagrees.

6. If one divides an olive's amount of an Ever Min ha'Chai into two pieces after he places it into his mouth, according to Rebbi Yochanan he is Chayav. According to Reish Lakish he is exempt.

7. If one eats an olive's amount of an Ever Min ha'Chai and some of it became stuck in his palate and was not swallowed, according to Rebbi Yochanan he is Chayav. According to Reish Lakish he is exempt.

8. Rebbi Asi says in the name of Rebbi Yochanan that if one eats half an olive's amount of an Ever Min ha'Chai, spits it up, and eats it again, he is Chayav.

A BIT MORE

1. Since the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai and Tereifah are derived from two different verses in the Torah, there is a separate Chiyuv for each.

2. If the animal became a Tereifah at birth, according to Rebbi Yochanan the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai takes effect along with the prohibition of Tereifah. It takes effect either because Rebbi Yochanan maintains that the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai applies even before the limb is detached, or because he maintains that since the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai applies to Bnei Noach, it takes effect on top of the prohibition of Tereifah. Reish Lakish disagrees. Alternatively, if the animal was not a Tereifah at birth, and the Isur of Ever Min ha'Chai applies even before the limb is detached from the animal, Rebbi Yochanan maintains that the Isur of Tereifah applies to an animal while it is alive and therefore it takes effect on top of the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai, and Reish Lakish disagrees.

3. Rebbi Yochanan maintains that the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai does not take effect until the limb becomes detached, and thus the prohibitions of Ever Min ha'Chai and Tereifah take effect at the same time, and he is Chayav for both. Reish Lakish maintains that the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai applies even while the limb is still attached, and the prohibition of Tereifah does not take effect on top of the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai.

4. If an animal became a Tereifah at birth, according to Rebbi Ami all three prohibitions take effect at the same time. Even if the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai does not take effect until the limb becomes detached, Rebbi Ami maintains that it takes effect on top of the prohibitions of Tereifah and Chelev, and one is Chayav for all three Isurim. According to Rebbi Chiya bar Aba, the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai does not take effect until the limb is detached, and it does not take effect on top of the prohibitions of Tereifah and Chelev. Alternatively, if the animal was not a Tereifah from birth, the Isur of Tereifah takes effect on top of the prohibition of Ever Min ha'Chai.

5. Although, with regard to other prohibitions, if one eats the size of an olive a little at a time he is Chayav (provided that he eats it within the time of Kedei Achilas Peras), Ever Min ha'Chai is an exception, according to Rebbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish.

6. According to Rebbi Yochanan, he is Chayav because his throat benefited from an olive's amount. According to Reish Lakish, he is exempt because he did not swallow the entire olive's amount at one time.

7. According to Rebbi Yochanan, he is Chayav even though he did not actually swallow an olive's amount, because his throat benefited from an olive's amount. According to Reish Lakish, he is exempt because he did not swallow the entire olive's amount.

8. The half of an olive's amount that he swallows is not considered to have been digested. According to Rebbi Yochanan, one is Chayav for Ever Min ha'Chai only when his throat benefits from an olive's size. Therefore, if he eats even the same half of an olive's amount twice, he is Chayav.
