SUMMARY

1. There is a dispute about the Terumah-status of water mixed with wine sediments of Terumah.

2. The law is different for wine sediments of Ma'aser Rishon.

3. If the wine sediments of Ma'aser Rishon are Demai (doubtful Ma'aser), any water mixed with it is permitted.

4. Kidush is recited only on wine that may be brought as libations on the Mizbe'ach in the Beis ha'Mikdash.

5. One may not use foul-smelling wine for Kidush.

A BIT MORE

1. Tana Kama: The first two batches of water mixed with these sediments are considered Terumah (mid'Rabanan, -Rashbam), while any batch afterward is permitted. Rebbi Meir: The third batch is also Terumah if it has the taste of wine.

2. Tana Kama: The first batch is deemed Ma'aser, while the second is not. Rebbi Meir: The second batch is also Ma'aser if it has the taste of wine.

3. However, Hekdesh is more stringent than all of these cases. If the wine was consecrated with Kedushas Damim, then only the fourth batch is permitted. If it has Kedushas ha'Guf (i.e., it was consecrated for use as libations in the Beis ha'Mikdash), all batches are considered Hekdesh.

4. Even if it is valid b'Di'eved for libations, it is considered valid l'Chatchilah for Kidush. This is apparent from the fact that Rava permits one to squeeze grapes and use the resulting juice immediately for Kidush, even though such juice would be valid only b'Di'eved for libations.

5. One may not use wine left uncovered overnight for Kidush.
