SUMMARY

1. If the Melikah of a Chatas ha'Of was done with intent to eat it after the allotted time, and the sprinkling of the blood was done she'Lo Lishmah or vice versa, the Korban is Pasul but not Pigul.

2. If one of the Avodos of a Korban was done with intent to eat an olive's size of meat outside the allotted place, and another olive's size after the allotted time, or vice versa, the Korban is Pasul but not Pigul.

3. If one of the Avodos of a Korban was done with intent to eat half an olive's size of meat after the allotted time, and to burn another half an olive's size after the allotted time, the Korban is Pasul but not Pigul.

4. Only a Kohen may perform the Melikah of a Chatas ha'Of or Olas ha'Of. He performs the Melikah with his fingernail.

5. The Melikah of an Olas ha'Of is done on the upper part of the Mizbe'ach. It is done from the back of the bird's neck, and the head is severed from the body.

6. According to the Tana Kama, the Ma'arachah may be placed on the Sovev of the Mizbe'ach. According to Rebbi Nechemyah and Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov, the Ma'arachah must be placed on the top of the Mizbe'ach.

7. According to the Tana Kama, if the Kohen who performs the Melikah to a Chatas ha'Of separates the head completely from the body, it is Pasul. Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon disagrees.

8. Rav Chisda explains that according to the Tana Kama, if the Kohen does not press the remaining blood from a Chatas ha'Of, it is Pasul. Accordingly, if the head is separated from the body, it is Pasul.

9. Rava explains that according to the Tana Kama, if there is a delay between the cutting of the first and second Simanim of an Olas ha'Of, it is valid. Accordingly, if the head of a Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body, it is Pasul.

10. Abaye explains that according to the Tana Kama, if the Kohen does not cut most of the flesh of a Chatas ha'Of after cutting one of the Simanim, the Korban is valid. Accordingly, if the head of a Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body, it is Pasul.

A BIT MORE

1. Since a Chatas offered she'Lo Lishmah is Pasul, a Machshavah of she'Lo Lishmah prevents the Korban from becoming Pigul. A Korban becomes Pigul only when the other Avodos were done with a Machshavah of Pigul or when they were done properly.

2. Rebbi Yehudah says that if the Machshavah of Pigul was the first Machshavah, the Korban is Pigul.

3. The Machshavah of eating and the Machshavah of burning on the Mizbe'ach do not combine. Although his Machshavah was on a total of an olive's size, the Korban is not Pigul because Achilah and Haktarah do not combine.

4. Although a non-Kohen may perform the Shechitah of a Korban, Melikah may be done only by a Kohen.

5. The Kohen ascends the ramp of the Mizbe'ach. He turns onto the Sovev, toward the southeastern corner of the Mizbe'ach. He performs the Melikah on the Sovev, and he presses the blood on the upper part of the Mizbe'ach.

6. The blood of an Olas ha'Of must be pressed on the Mizbe'ach near the place of the Ma'arachah. According to the Tana Kama, the blood may be pressed within an Amah below the Sovev, since the Ma'arachah may be placed on the Sovev. According to Rebbi Nechemyah and Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov, the blood must be pressed above the Sovev, since the blood must be pressed near the Ma'arachah which is on the top of the Mizbe'ach.

7. According to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, l'Chatchilah the head of a Chatas ha'Of may not be separated from the body. If the Kohen separates it from the body, it is valid.

8. Since the blood must be pressed from a Chatas ha'Of like from an Olas ha'Of, if the head of a Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body in the manner of Melikah of an Olas ha'Of, the Avodah of the Chatas ha'Of has been done in the same manner as an Olas ha'Of and it is Pasul. However, according to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, even if the Kohen does not press the remaining blood from a Chatas ha'Of on the Mizbe'ach, it is valid. Therefore, if the head is separated from the body but the remaining blood is not pressed on the Mizbe'ach, it is not the same as an Olas ha'Of and it is valid.

9. When the head of a Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body, there inevitably is a delay between the cutting of the first and second Simanim, because after the cutting of the first, the Kohen must cut most of the flesh. Nevertheless, since an Olas ha'Of is also valid if there is a delay, it is considered as though the Avodah of the Chatas ha'Of has been done in the same manner as an Olas ha'Of and it is Pasul. However, according to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, an Olas ha'Of is Pasul if there is a delay between the cutting of the first and second Simanim. Therefore, even if the head of a Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body and there is a delay, it is not the same as an Olas ha'Of and it is valid.

10. A Chatas ha'Of is valid even if the Kohen does not cut most of the flesh. If the Kohen separates the head of a Chatas ha'Of from the body, there is not necessarily a delay between the cutting of the first and second Simanim. Therefore, the Avodah of the Chatas ha'Of has been done in the same manner as an Olas ha'Of and it is Pasul. However, according to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, if the Kohen does not cut most of the flesh of the Chatas ha'Of after cutting the first Siman, it is Pasul. Therefore, there is inevitably a delay between the cutting of the first and second Simanim and it is not the same Avodah as done with an Olas ha'Of. Consequently, even if the head of the Chatas ha'Of is separated from the body, its Avodah has not been done in the same manner as an Olas ha'Of and it is valid.
