The second bonfire on the Mizbe'ach is for the purpose of generating coal for the Ketores. 7. Enough wood to produce five Se'ah of coal is used for the second bonfire on the Mizbe'ach. A BIT MORE
1. According to Rebbi Yosi, the entire Mizbe'ach is situated in the north of the Azarah. He says it is "considered as though" it was slaughtered in the north of the Azarah because one may have thought that a Korban must be slaughtered next to the Mizbe'ach but not on the Mizbe'ach itself. 2. According to Rebbi Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah, the entire Mizbe'ach is in the south of the Azarah. A Gezeiras ha'Kasuv states that the northern half of the Mizbe'ach is valid for the Shechitah of Kodshei Kodashim. 3. According to Rebbi Yosi Bar Yehudah the entire Mizbe'ach is situated in the south of the Azarah. A Gezeiras ha'Kasuv states that if the Shechitah is done on the northern half of the Mizbe'ach, it is valid. If the Mizbe'ach is not built, an act of Shechitah done in the place where the Mizbe'ach should be is Pasul. 4. The Mizbe'ach may not be built on tunnels or arches. 5. Wood from fig trees is used for the Mizbe'ach in order to rectify the sin of Adam ha'Rishon. According to one opinion, the Etz ha'Da'as with which Adam ha'Rishon sinned was a fig tree. 6. The second bonfire is placed four Amos to the north of the southwestern corner of the Mizbe'ach, so that it is directly in front of the entrance to the Heichal. 7. On Shabbos, the two Bazichei Levonah of the Lechem ha'Panim are burned on the second bonfire of the Mizbe'ach, and, therefore, extra wood is needed. 8. The two Bazichei Levonah of the Lechem ha'Panim are taken from the Shulchan in the Heichal and placed on the second bonfire of the Mizbe'ach in the Azarah. The second bonfire is situated directly opposite the entrance to the Azarah. 9. The coals are taken from the second bonfire of the Mizbe'ach and placed in the Heichal to be used for the daily Ketores. The second bonfire is situated directly opposite the entrance to the Azarah. 10. The Mizbe'ach corresponds to the width of the Heichal together with the walls of the Heichal. The Heichal is twenty Amos wide, and its walls six Amos thick.
