SUMMARY
1. A Bas Kohen who is Mezanah is punished with Sereifah regardless of whether she is married to a Kohen, a Levi or a Yisrael. 2. A Bas Kohen who is Mechalel Shabbos is punished with Sekilah just like everyone else. 3. A Bas Kohen who is Mezanah while she is a Penuyah (unmarried) is not punished with Sereifah. 4. 1. According to the Rabanan, a married Bas Kohen who is Mezanah is punished with Sereifah even if her husband is a non-Jew, a Nasin, a Mamzer, or a Chalal. According to Rebbi Meir, if a Bas Kohen marries a man who is Pasul and she is then Mezanah, she is punished with Chenek like a regular Bas Yisrael. 2. Due to the fact that Kohanim were given additional Mitzvos, it would seem logical that they should be subject to more severe penalties when they commit Aveiros. Nevertheless, even according to Rebbi Shimon, who maintains that Sereifah is a more severe form of Misah than Sekilah, a Bas Kohen who is Mechalel Shabbos still receives the regular punishment of Sekilah. With regard to a male Kohen, who is permitted to be Mechalel Shabbos for the purpose of performing the Avodah in the Beis ha'Mikdash, it is obvious that he is not subjected to a more severe Chiyuv Misah if he is Mechalel Shabbos incorrectly. One might have thought, however, that a Bas Kohen, who does not perform the Avodah, should be subjected to a more severe form of Misah when she is Mechalel Shabbos. The Gemara derives from a verse that this reasoning is incorrect, and a heightened punishment is administered to a Bas Kohen only in cases of Zenus. 3. Even according to Rebbi Eliezer, who maintains that a Penuyah becomes a Zonah if she is Mezanah with a Panuy for a purpose other than matrimony, a Bas Kohen Penuyah who is Mezanah is not punished with Sereifah. 4. Although a Bas Kohen who is married to a Yisrael is subject to different Dinim than a regular Bas Yisrael, there is a dispute between the Tanaim regarding a Bas Kohen who is married to a Mamzer. Rebbi Meir maintains that she loses her status as a Bas Kohen and is subject to the same Dinim as a Bas Yisrael. Thus, if she eats Terumah, she is Chayav to pay the principal plus an additional fifth, just like the Chiyuv of a Bas Yisrael. Similarly, if she is Mezanah, she is punished with Chenek, just like a Bas Yisrael. The Chachamim maintain that even if a Bas Kohen marries a Mamzer, she retains her status as a Bas Kohen. If she eats Terumah, she is Chayav to pay only the principal but not an additional fifth, and if she is Mezanah, she is punished with Sereifah. 5. Rebbi Akiva disagrees with Rebbi Yishmael and maintains that a married Bas Kohen who is Mezanah is punished with Sereifah regardless of whether she is an Arusah or a Nesu'ah. 6. Even though the Edim Zomemim would have caused the Bas Kohen to be Chayav Sereifah, which is a more severe punishment than Sekilah, a Gezeiras ha'Kasuv dictates that they receive only the Misah which they sought to inflict on the alleged Bo'el. 7. Even though Ba'alei Mum are not permitted to perform the Avodah, all of the other Dinei Kehunah still apply to them, and they even may take a share of the Korbanos. A Bas Kohen who is Mezanah is Chayav Sereifah even if she has a Mum.
