SUMMARY

Moshe Rabeinu became wealthy from the carvings of the Luchos.

The Pilpul of the Torah was only given to Moshe and his children but Moshe Rabeinu generously gave it to Klal Yisrael.

Rebbi Yochanan says that the Shechinah of Hashem Yisbarach does not reside with somebody unless he is strong, rich, wise, and modest.

The Luchos were six by six handbreadths and were 3 handbreadths thick.

50 gates of Binah were created in the world and they were all given to Moshe Rabeinu with the exception of one of them. (1)

All of the Nevi'im were wealthy.

At first when Moshe Rabeinu learned the Torah he would forget it until it was given to him as a gift.

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he may feed his friend's wife and children. (2)

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he may not feed his friend's animals.

Rebbi Eliezer says that he may feed his friend's non-Kosher animals. (3)

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he is allowed to marry his friend's daughter.

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he is not allowed to marry off his young daughter to him. (4)

Someone who makes a Neder that he will not benefit from his son so that his son will not be Mevatel Torah, the son may draw water and light a candle for his father. (5)

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he is allowed to give him a Kos of Shalom.

In Bavel they understand that a Kos of Shalom is a Kos in a house of mourning and in Eretz Yisrael they understand that it is a Kos of a bathhouse.

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he is allowed to feed his friend's servants.

A BIT MORE

1. The one gate of knowledge that Moshe Rabeinu did not attain was a true knowledge of Hashem Yisbarach.

2. He is allowed to feed them even though his friend is obligated to support them and he is saving his friend from the cost of supporting them.

3. Since they are non–Kosher animals and may not eaten, if he feeds them it is not regarded as benefiting his friend. The Chachamim disagree because he may sell the non-Kosher animals to a Nochri.

4. If she is a Ketanah or a Na'arah he may not marry her off to him, but if she is a Bogeres it is permitted since she is marrying him on her own volition.

5. Rebbi Yitzchak says that he also may roast a fish for his father. Since these are small tasks that are not Mevatel the son from learning Torah he did not have these types of tasks in mind when he made the Neder.

BRIEF INSIGHT

UNCOMMON MODESTY

Rebbi Yochanan says that the Shechinah of Hashem Yisbarach does not reside with somebody unless he is strong, rich, wise, and modest. The Chasam Sofer asks why are strength and wealth prerequisites for Giluy Shechinah? The Chasam Sofer answers that the only essential requirement for Giluy Shechinah is modesty. However if someone does not have outstanding attributes it is not difficult to be modest. Only someone who has the outstanding attributes of strength, wealth and wisdom and yet is still modest is fit for Giluy Shechinah.

QUICK HALACHAH

FEEDING A WIFE AND CHILDREN

If someone makes a Neder that his friend may not benefit from him he may feed his friend's wife and children and servants, but he may not feed his friend's animals. (Shulchan Aruch YD 211:2)

Even though the friend is benefiting because now he does not have to provide food for his wife and children, the benefit is regarded as an incidental benefit and is not regarded as a Hana'ah. (Shach)
