SUMMARY

1. A wooden chest which holds more than two Kor is not susceptible to Tum'ah. According to Beis Shamai, only the airspace in the chest counts toward the two-Kor volume. According to Beis Hillel maintains, even the thickness of the walls of the chest is included.

2. According to the Tana Kama, the thickness of the legs and rim of the chest does not count toward the two-Kor volume. Rebbi Yosi maintains that the thickness of the legs and rim counts toward the two-Kor volume, but the space between the legs is not counted.

3. Rebbi Meir says that oil is always a Rishon l'Tum'ah. The Chachamim say that honey also is always a Rishon. Rebbi Shimon Shezuri says that only wine is always a Rishon.

4. If Tevel becomes mixed with Chulin, mid'Oraisa it is Batel b'Rov. However, the Rabanan decreed that it is not Batel.

5. There is a disagreement about whether the Kinyan of a Nochri who purchases land in Eretz Yisrael exempts the produce of his land from Ma'aser.

6. If the margin of a Sefer Torah is torn and the tear extends into two lines it may be repaired. If the tear extends into three lines, it may be repaired only if the parchment was not processed.

7. If a Mezuzah is written with two words on each line, or in the manner of a Shirah with one word on the first line, three words on the second line, and two words on the third line, it is valid.

8. If a Mezuzah is written in the shape of a tent, with one word on the first line, two words on the second line, and three words on the third line, it is Pasul.

9. The last two words of a Mezuzah, "Al ha'Aretz," may be the only two words on the line. There is a disagreement about whether they should be written at the end or the beginning of the line.

10. According to Rav Huna, the Parshah of a Mezuzah must be written as a Parshah Setumah.

A BIT MORE

1. A wooden vessel is susceptible to Tum'ah only if it can be carried with all of its contents. If it can hold two Kor, it is too large to be carried when it is full and thus it cannot become Tamei.

2. Rebbi Shimon Shezuri says that if the legs of the chest are one Tefach high, the space between them is not counted. If they are less than one Tefach high, the space between them is counted.

3. The Rabanan decreed that liquids are a Rishon l'Tum'ah regardless of whether they came into contact with an Av ha'Tum'ah, with a Rishon l'Tum'ah, or with a Sheni l'Tum'ah. According to Rebbi Meir, wine and oil are regarded as liquids with respect to this decree, but honey is not regarded as a liquid. The Chachamim maintain that even honey is regarded as a liquid. Rebbi Shimon Shezuri says that wine is regarded as a liquid, but oil and honey are not.

4. Since, Min ha'Torah, the Tevel is Batel, the obligation to separate Ma'aser from the mixture is mid'Rabanan. Therefore, produce which is obligated in Ma'aser d'Rabanan must be used for separating Ma'aser for the Tevel which was mixed with the Chulin.

5. If the Kinyan of the Nochri exempts the produce of his land from Ma'aser, it is obligated in Ma'aser only mid'Rabanan. It may be used for separating Ma'aser for Tevel which was mixed with the Chulin.

6. Since the parchment was processed, a large tear may not be repaired, because the repair will be very apparent and it will be a disgrace for the Sefer Torah. If the parchment was not processed, even a large tear may be repaired.

7. However, a Sefer Torah which is written in the manner of a Shirah, or a Shirah in a Sefer Torah which is written in the regular manner, is Pasul.

8. Likewise, if a Mezuzah is written in the shape of a tail, with three words on the first line, two words on the second line, and one word on the third line, it is Pasul.

9. According to one opinion, the words "Al ha'Aretz" should be written at the end of the line under the word "ha'Shamayim," so that it will symbolize that just as the Shamayim is far above the Eretz, may our lives also be very long. According to a second opinion, "Al ha'Aretz" should be written at the beginning of the line, far from the word "ha'Shamayim," which is written at the end of the line, in order to symbolize that just as the Shamayim is very distant from the Eretz, may our lives also be very long.

10. A space must be left at the beginning of the first line of the second Parshah, with the second Parshah starting in the middle of the line.
