SUMMARY
1. Dead animals, tanneries, and graves must be distanced at least 50 Amos from any city. 2. Rain comes from the Heavenly "storehouse of good" only when Bnei Yisrael live in Eretz Yisrael. 3. The Gemara discusses how one should stand when he prays if he wants to be wise or rich. 4. Bavel (Babylon) was north of Eretz Yisrael. 5. The Gemara discusses damage that is not direct, but also not exactly indirect, called "Girei Didei" -- "his arrows."

A BIT MORE
1. This is so that the bad odor emanating from them will not bother the people of the city. 2. The Gemara says that this happens only when Bnei Yisrael live in Eretz Yisrael and are performing the Mitzvos. (See Bach who omits this latter condition.) 3. If he wants to be wise, he should face slightly southward. If he wants to be wealthy, he should face slightly northward. 4. This is as the verse -- foreseeing trouble from Babylon -- states, "From the north the evil will begin." 5. Even though Rebbi Yosi says that when a person plants a tree on his property his neighbor cannot make him cut it down, even though it will eventually ruin the neighbor's pit, he admits that one may not damage in a more direct fashion, called "Girei Didei." For example, a person may not pound sesame seeds to make them into oil in a very forceful manner, as this will cause items or structures in his neighbor's domain to fall to the ground.
