SUMMARY

1. If a Kohen has a wound on his finger he may cover it with a "Gemi" even on Shabbos when he is in the Beis ha'Mikdash, but not when he is outside the Beis ha'Mikdash.

2. Even in the Beis ha'Mikdash, the Kohen may not place the "Gemi" on the wound in order to draw blood.

3. Rebbi Yehudah b'Rebbi Chiya says that the finger of a Kohen may not be wrapped in a bandage while the Kohen performs the Avodah. Rebbi Yochanan disagrees.

4. Rava says that even one thread is considered a Chatzitzah if it is under the Bigdei Kehunah, between the garment and the skin.

5. If wind blew the Bigdei Kehunah away from the body of the Kohen, it is a Safek whether it is regarded as a Chatzitzah.

6. The Kohanim during the Avodah, the Leviyim while they are singing on the Duchan, and the Yisraelim during the Ma'amad are exempt from Tefilah and Tefilin.

7. If a Kohen wears the Tefilin of the hand during the Avodah, it is considered an extra Beged and the Avodah is Pasul. If he wears the Tefilin of the head, the Avodah is valid.

8. If a Kohen Gadol fails to wash his hands from the Kiyor or to immerse himself in the Mikvah when he changes his clothes between one Avodah and the other on Yom Kippur, the Avodah is valid.

9. A Kohen may not wash from the Kiyor if it does not contain enough water to wash the hands and feet of at least four Kohanim.

10. According to the Tana Kama, the Kohen places his right hand on his right foot, and his left hand on his left foot, when he washes his hands and feet from the Kiyor. Rebbi Yosi bar Yehudah disagrees.

11. Rebbi says that if the Kohen washes his hands and feet from the Kiyor during the day, he does not have to wash them again that night.

12. If a Kohen washes his hands and feet at night from the Kiyor, he must wash them again in the morning, even if he is in middle of the Avodah, according to Rebbi. Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon disagrees.

A BIT MORE

1. A "Gemi" has healing properties, and thus its application constitutes a Shevus (an Isur d'Rabanan on Shabbos) because of the concern that one may grind herbs in order to produce medicine on Shabbos. However, a Shevus prohibition does not apply in the Beis ha'Mikdash. Therefore, out of respect for the Beis ha'Mikdash, the Kohen should cover his wound with the "Gemi" while he performs the Avodah on Shabbos.

2. Drawing blood from a wound is a Torah prohibition. Therefore, it applies even in the Beis ha'Mikdash.

3. According to Rebbi Yehudah b'Rebbi Chiya, the bandage is considered an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah and is forbidden. According to the first version, Rebbi Yochanan disagrees and maintains that it is considered an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah only when it is worn in the same place as the Bigdei Kehunah. According to the second version, Rebbi Yochanan maintains that it is considered an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah only when it is at least three by three Etzba'os.

4. If a garment is worn in a different place than the Bigdei Kehunah, it is considered an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah only when it is at least three by three Etzba'os.

5. Similar, it is a Safek whether dust, a hair, the hand of the Kohen, a loose thread, or the air between the Bigdei Kehunah and the underarms of the Kohen is a Chatzitzah.

6. One who is occupied in one Mitzvah is exempt from other Mitzvos.

7. The Tefilin of the hand is worn in the place of the Bigdei Kehunah and therefore is regarded as an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah. The Tefilin of the head is worn between the Tzitz and the Mitznefes. Since it is not worn in the place of the Bigdei Kehunah, it is not considered an addition to the Bigdei Kehunah.

8. When the Kohen Gadol changes from the white garments to the gold garments, and from the gold garments to the white garments, on Yom Kippur, he washes his hands and feet twice, and he immerses in a Mikvah once.

9. The Torah states, "And Moshe and Aharon and his sons shall wash [from the Kiyor]." Aharon and his two sons, together with Moshe, are four people.

10. According to Rebbi Yosi bar Yehudah, the Kohen places one hand on top of the other and then places them on his feet. He then places one foot on top of the other and washes them with the water from the Kiyor.

11. However if the Kohen left the Azarah or took his mind off the Avodah, he must wash his hands and feet again.

12. According to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, the Kohen may do the Avodah for ten days straight without washing his hands again from the Kiyor, as long as he does not leave the Azarah or take his mind off the Avodah.
