SUMMARY
1. The Gemara quotes other sources that say that a person should make sure that he is not suspected of wrongdoing. 2. People from the house of Raban Gamliel would give their Machatzis ha'Shekel in a special manner. 3. The Mishnah explains how the person in charge would remove the Shekalim from the large boxes. 4. The person would take three times, representing the three groups that comprise Bnei Yisrael. 5. The Mishnah discusses at length what was done with the Machatzis ha'Shekel money.

A BIT MORE
1. One of these is the verse, "And he will find favor and understanding in the eyes of Elokim and man" (Mishlei 3:4). 2. They would throw it towards the box, and the person who would take the coins would tip it towards an area of the box that would be used first. They did this to ensure that their Shekalim would be used to bring the mandatory public Korbanos, and not be a surplus Shekel used for public Nedavah offerings at the end of the year. 3. For example, he would ask, "Should I take?" The people present would respond, "Take! Take! Take!" 4. Even though each Shekel is considered to be from all of Bnei Yisrael, the first taking symbolized the people of Eretz Yisrael who usually were the first ones to donate. The second taking represented the people in walled cities close to Eretz Yisrael, and the third represented the rest of the people outside of Eretz Yisrael. 5. The money was used primarily to bring the public Korbanos, such as the Tamid, Musaf, Nesachim, Omer, Shtei ha'Lechem, etc.
