לד:ח   הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-הָיָה אֶל-יִרְמְיָהוּ, מֵאֵת יקוק--אַחֲרֵי כְּרֹת הַמֶּלֶךְ צִדְקִיָּהוּ בְּרִית, אֶת-כָּל-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בִּירוּשָׁלִַם, לִקְרֹא לָהֶם, דְּרוֹר.34:8 The word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people that were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;
ט   לְשַׁלַּח אִישׁ אֶת-עַבְדּוֹ וְאִישׁ אֶת-שִׁפְחָתוֹ, הָעִבְרִי וְהָעִבְרִיָּה--חָפְשִׁים:  לְבִלְתִּי עֲבָד-בָּם בִּיהוּדִי אָחִיהוּ, אִישׁ.9 that every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, go free; that none should make bondmen of them, even of a Jew his brother;
י   וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ כָל-הַשָּׂרִים וְכָל-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר-בָּאוּ בַבְּרִית, לְשַׁלַּח אִישׁ אֶת-עַבְדּוֹ וְאִישׁ אֶת-שִׁפְחָתוֹ חָפְשִׁים, לְבִלְתִּי עֲבָד-בָּם, עוֹד; וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ, וַיְשַׁלֵּחוּ.10 and all the princes and all the people hearkened, that had entered into the covenant to let every one his man-servant, and every one his maid-servant, go free, and not to make bondmen of them any more; they hearkened, and let them go;
יא   וַיָּשׁוּבוּ, אַחֲרֵי-כֵן, וַיָּשִׁבוּ אֶת-הָעֲבָדִים וְאֶת-הַשְּׁפָחוֹת, אֲשֶׁר שִׁלְּחוּ חָפְשִׁים; ויכבישום (וַיִּכְבְּשׁוּם), לַעֲבָדִים וְלִשְׁפָחוֹת. 11 but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids;
12 therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying:
13 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying:
14 'At the end of seven years ye shall let go every man his brother that is a Hebrew, that hath been sold unto thee, and hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee'; but your fathers hearkened not unto Me, neither inclined their ear.
טו   וַתָּשֻׁבוּ אַתֶּם הַיּוֹם, וַתַּעֲשׂוּ אֶת-הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינַי, לִקְרֹא דְרוֹר, אִישׁ לְרֵעֵהוּ; וַתִּכְרְתוּ בְרִית, לְפָנַי, בַּבַּיִת, אֲשֶׁר-נִקְרָא שְׁמִי עָלָיו.15 And ye were now turned, and had done that which is right in Mine eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before Me in the house whereon My name is called;
16 but ye turned and profaned My name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and ye brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
17 Therefore thus saith the LORD: Ye have not hearkened unto Me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbour; behold, I proclaim for you a liberty, saith the LORD, unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine; and I will make you a horror unto all the kingdoms of the earth.
יח   וְנָתַתִּי אֶת-הָאֲנָשִׁים, הָעֹבְרִים אֶת-בְּרִתִי, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-הֵקִימוּ אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הַבְּרִית, אֲשֶׁר כָּרְתוּ לְפָנָי--הָעֵגֶל אֲשֶׁר כָּרְתוּ לִשְׁנַיִם, וַיַּעַבְרוּ בֵּין בְּתָרָיו.18 And I will give the men that have transgressed My covenant, that have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before Me, when they cut the calf in twain and passed between the parts thereof;
יט   שָׂרֵי יְהוּדָה וְשָׂרֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם, הַסָּרִסִים וְהַכֹּהֲנִים, וְכֹל, עַם הָאָרֶץ--הָעֹבְרִים, בֵּין בִּתְרֵי הָעֵגֶל.19 the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land, that passed between the parts of the calf;
20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food unto the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth.
21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, that are gone up from you.
22 Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.
35:1 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:
2 'Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.'
ג   וָאֶקַּח אֶת-יַאֲזַנְיָה בֶן-יִרְמְיָהוּ, בֶּן-חֲבַצִּנְיָה, וְאֶת-אֶחָיו, וְאֶת-כָּל-בָּנָיו--וְאֵת, כָּל-בֵּית הָרֵכָבִים.3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;
ד   וָאָבִא אֹתָם, בֵּית יקוק, אֶל-לִשְׁכַּת בְּנֵי חָנָן בֶּן-יִגְדַּלְיָהוּ, אִישׁ הָא-לקים--אֲשֶׁר-אֵצֶל, לִשְׁכַּת הַשָּׂרִים, אֲשֶׁר מִמַּעַל לְלִשְׁכַּת מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ בֶן-שַׁלֻּם, שֹׁמֵר הַסַּף.4 and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door;
5 and I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites goblets full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them: 'Drink ye wine.'
ו   וַיֹּאמְרוּ, לֹא נִשְׁתֶּה-יָּיִן:  כִּי יוֹנָדָב בֶּן-רֵכָב אָבִינוּ, צִוָּה עָלֵינוּ לֵאמֹר, לֹא תִשְׁתּוּ-יַיִן אַתֶּם וּבְנֵיכֶם, עַד-עוֹלָם.6 But they said: 'We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying: Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons, for ever;
ז   וּבַיִת לֹא-תִבְנוּ, וְזֶרַע לֹא-תִזְרָעוּ וְכֶרֶם לֹא-תִטָּעוּ, וְלֹא יִהְיֶה, לָכֶם:  כִּי בָּאֳהָלִים תֵּשְׁבוּ, כָּל-יְמֵיכֶם, לְמַעַן תִּחְיוּ יָמִים רַבִּים עַל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה, אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם גָּרִים שָׁם.7 neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye sojourn.
ח   וַנִּשְׁמַע, בְּקוֹל יְהוֹנָדָב בֶּן-רֵכָב אָבִינוּ, לְכֹל, אֲשֶׁר צִוָּנוּ:  לְבִלְתִּי שְׁתוֹת-יַיִן, כָּל-יָמֵינוּ--אֲנַחְנוּ נָשֵׁינוּ, בָּנֵינוּ וּבְנֹתֵינוּ.8 And we have hearkened to the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
ט   וּלְבִלְתִּי בְּנוֹת בָּתִּים, לְשִׁבְתֵּנוּ; וְכֶרֶם וְשָׂדֶה וָזֶרַע, לֹא יִהְיֶה-לָּנוּ.9 nor to build houses for us to dwell in, neither to have vineyard, or field, or seed;
10 but we have dwelt in tents, and have hearkened, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up against the land, that we said: Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Arameans; so we dwell at Jerusalem.'
12 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying:
13 'Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to My words? saith the LORD.
14 The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed, and unto this day they drink none, for they hearken to their father's commandment; but I have spoken unto you, speaking betimes and often, and ye have not hearkened unto Me.
15 I have sent also unto you all My servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often, saying: Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers; but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me.
טז   כִּי הֵקִימוּ, בְּנֵי יְהוֹנָדָב בֶּן-רֵכָב, אֶת-מִצְוַת אֲבִיהֶם, אֲשֶׁר צִוָּם; וְהָעָם הַזֶּה, לֹא שָׁמְעוּ אֵלָי.16 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto Me;
17 therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard, and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.'
יח   וּלְבֵית הָרֵכָבִים אָמַר יִרְמְיָהוּ, כֹּה-אָמַר יקוק צְבָאוֹת א-לקי יִשְׂרָאֵל, יַעַן אֲשֶׁר שְׁמַעְתֶּם, עַל-מִצְוַת יְהוֹנָדָב אֲבִיכֶם; וַתִּשְׁמְרוּ, אֶת-כָּל-מִצְותָיו, וַתַּעֲשׂוּ, כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה אֶתְכֶם.18 And unto the house of the Rechabites Jeremiah said: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have hearkened to the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you;
19 therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: There shall not be cut off unto Jonadab the son of Rechab a man to stand before Me for ever.'
