DAF DISCUSSIONS - ROSH HASHANAH 16

Gershon Dubin asked:

The Gemara says that we should bring a Korbon Haomer so that the grain in the fields should be blessed. Isn't that a contradiction to the Gemara's statement earlier that the grain growing currently was determined on the previous Pesach?

Gershon

The Kollel replies:

Gershon,

The conclusion of the Gemara earlier is that all grain growing Pesach time is judged twice: last year's judgment and this years. (In any case, "grain of the fields" is actually an adjective describing which type of produce is meant by "Tevu'ah". It does not mean that it is presently growing in the fields, but rather it means "the type of produce that grows in fields" -- as opposed to produce of trees, which are judged on Shavuos.)
