DAF DISCUSSIONS - BEITZAH 19

Hillel Ben Ben Boruch asked:

With regard to Korbunus and Shabbas. How can a Korbun be done on Shabbas since it is usser to kill on Shabbas? Moreover, how can the Korbun Tamid be done on Shabbas since it is usser to cook or maintain a fire or even burn something on Shabbas? Are these exceptions to the issurs of Shabbas? Why didn't Moshe ask Hash-m about this since it seems to contradict the issur of several Malachot and with regard to killing disrupt the Shalom of Shabbat?

Hillel Ben Ben Boruch, Bartlesville OK USA

The Kollel replies:

The Torah commands us to offer the Korban Musaf of Shabbos on Shabbos (Bamidbar 28;9), and also to bring the Korban Tamid on Shabbos (28:10). All Korbanos which have a set day are brought on Shabbos, like when Erev Pesach falls out on Shabbos everyone brings the Korban Pesach. But Korbanos which need not be brought on Shabbos are forbidden to be done on Shabbos (Pesachim 65b, Yevamos 7a). Bris Milah is another Mitzvah which the Torah commands us to do on Shabbos even though it's a Melachah.

Hash-m wants the Korban to "push off" regular Shabbos rules. Worshipping Hash-m with a Korban does not disrupt the Shabbos - it is doing Hash-m's will.

All the best,
