DAF DISCUSSIONS - SUKAH 46

Aryeh Goldman asks:

The gemara says: אלה שבכל יום ויום תן לו מעין ברכותיו as the source for why you have to praise Hash-m for that particular time (and make a beracha for all of the mitzvos separately)My questions are twofold: 1. Does this refer specifically to the entire contents of the beracha? Meaning: if you are מתפלל שמונה עשרה would this require you to focus your praise exclusively on shabbos for example if it was shabbos 2. If yes, (or maybe even if no), why does the gemara say (berachos כא עמוד א) that the reason why we don't say the weekday berachos during shabbos is because of טיחרא דציבורא, and even according to the Yerushalaymi that the problem is making personal bakashos, it is still difficult, becuase according to our gemara, we should just say that you say shabbos berachos because of our pasuk!

The Kollel replies:

I posed this question to a Talmid Chacham and he gave an answer based on the Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chayim 268:4) who says that if someone recited the weekday Shemoneh Esreh on Shabbos he is Yotzei if he mentioned Shabbos in the Shemoneh Esreh even though he did not say any one of the Berachos exclusively for Shabbos.

1. According to this, we can answer question #1 and say that one need not focus one's praise exclusively on Shabbos.

2. Question #2 is also answered because we say that if not for Tircha d'Tzibura, one could say a weekday Shemoneh Esreh on Shabbos, and by mentioning Shabbos once one fulfills merely בכל יום ויום תן לו מעין ברכותיו.

The Kollel adds:

What I wrote above relates to the minimum one has to do to fulfil the Mitzva of "praising Hash-m for that time" but it is worth mentioning what the requirement is lecatchilah.

1) Rabeinu Chananel here writes that our Gemara means to say
that on Shabbos one says a Beracha of Shabbos. It seems
that the requirement is that one says a special Beracha (in
each Tefilah) for Shabbos.

2) It is worth noting that our Gemara about giving Hash-m
"me'ein birchotav" every day, does not seem to be codified
explicitly by the Rambam or Shulchan Aruch. In fact I found
that the Teshuvas Rivash #384 (in a Responsa written to the
Ran, the teacher of the Rivash) writes that he did not find
any of the Achronim who mentioned this Halacha, and in
addition his teacher, the Ran, does not mention it.

3) However I would like to suggest that in effect this is
mentioned in the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 268:4, who
writes that if one forgot to mention Shabbos in the
Shemoneh Esreh, one must say the Tefillah again.
