DAF DISCUSSIONS - SUKAH 46

Aaron Pacanowski asked:

The Gemara in today's daf (I think it's Sukka 46) that there's a Machlokes about if you make a Brachah every time you eat in the Sukka or just the 1st time.

According to the opinion that you do not make a Berachah every time because every minute of Sukkos you're Chaayov in Sukka and there's no break in the Mitzvah but by Lulav you make a Brachah everytime because there is a break in the Mitzvah (at night).

Would there be anytime when you'd make a Brachah on the Sukka twice in Sukkos?

If for example you became a Holchei Drachim in the middle of Sukkos so now you're Potur from Sukka, (there is a break in the Mitzvah!) now when you come back home (and you're not a Holchei Drachim anymore) would you make another Brachah (since there has been a break in the Mitzvah)?

Or if it rained, now there's a break in the Mitzvah. When it stops raining do you make a new Brachah?

The Kollel replies:

No. According to this opinion, as the Chidushim u'Biurim explains, anytime one is constantly under an obligation to perform a certain Mitzvah, it would only require one Berachah the first time the Mitzvah is performed. It does not matter whether or not the person is in a situation to do the Mitzvah, but whether the obligation is present in general. This is enough of a reason not to have to make another Berachah.

All the best,

Yaakov Montrose
