DAF DISCUSSIONS - SUKAH 5

Yoni asked:

The gemara learns out from the aron with the kappores that a 10 tefachim tall wall is the least height needed for a sukah. What is the limud, all we see from this Brissa is that above ten even with out a wall is a new reshut? nothing to do with mechitzot

The gemara says lets learn out from hashems face the size of he kappores, how big is hashems face?

Yoni, Israel

The Kollel replies:

Shalom Rav.

1. A Sukah requires walls as well as Sechach. Once we know that the Shi'ur of a Reshus is ten Tefachim, we know the height of the Sechach. Consequently, the height of the walls (on which the Sechach will now rest) is determined automatically.

2. The word "Elokim," which is a multifaceted word, refers here to an angel (whom Yakov met), and not to Hash-m. Not that we know the size of an angel's face either (perhaps the Gemara could have asked that as well), but whatever its size, it is infinitely larger than the "face" of the Kapores (which is what the Gemara answers).
