Chaim - A friend just showed me that Rav Brevda speaks about the contrast between Shimon ha'Tzadik (l'Ma'alah Min ha'Teva) and Alexander/Aristotle (Teva) and the Chanukah connection at length, in his "Lehodos ul'Halel," pp. 11-16. It was only after the era of Shimon ha'Tzadik and the advent of the Tzedukim, who shed doubt on the Mesorah of the Torah, that Yavan was able to overpower Israel.
