DAF DISCUSSIONS - YOMA 28

Pesach Feldman asks:

Tosfos on daf 28a DH Yafisu writes that the limbs and fats of the afternoon Tamid are the last Avodah of the day, and therefore, they should have their own lottery. But then he continues that in the morning lottery, they cast lots also for the limbs of the afternoon Tamid, since there is no Avodah the entire day after these limbs.

I don't understand what Tosfos means here. Tosfos just said that the last Avodah of the day should have its own lottery, and the limbs of the afternoon Tamid are the last Avodah of the day. If so, why is it included in the lottery for the morning Tamid? It should have its own lottery, as Tosfos writes!

Pesach Feldman, Yerushalayim

The Kollel replies:

(Please forgive the delay in response. Technical problems prevented the mailing of a number of responses.)

1) See Gemara earlier (26a) in the name of Rebbi Yochanan, that there was no lottery for the afternoon Minchah but rather the Kohen who won in the morning Tamid lottery automatically gets the afternoon Tamid too.

2) This suggests that the lottery for the morning Tamid and the lottery for the afternoon Tamid go hand in hand. Therefore when Tosfos writes that the afternoon limbs have their own lottery, this means that they do not have a lottery together with any other items, but it does not refer to the morning limbs, because the afternoon limbs and the morning limbs are considered identical as far as the lottery is concerned.
