DAF DISCUSSIONS - YOMA 3

Boruch kahan asked:

Again a general question, there seems to be various contradictions in the Pesukim in Shemos exactly who was responsible for the Shemen Hamishchoh: a)In Terumah at the beginning, Posuk vav it lists this item as something the whole of K'lal Yisroel should bring b)In Ki SiSoh perek lamed posuk kaf gimmel says "kach lechoh" and in kaf hei the "shemen hamishchoh" c)in Vayekhel it says in posuk kaf zayin the nesiim brought the shemen as listed in posuk kaf ches. please could you clarify these three references?

The Kollel replies:

I do not see the contradiction between Terumah and Vayakhel. All of the people of Yisrael were commanded to bring all fifteen materials, while, in practice, the Nesi'im brought the Avnei Milu'im and the Shemen ha'Mishchah (as Chazal teach that they waited until the end).

As for the verse of "Kach Lecha," see Or ha'Chayim who says that it seems that the verse means that Moshe should bring his own. However, see Abarbanel, who writes that in fact the verse is teaching us that only Moshe was able to make the Shemen ha'Mishchah, and it was never made again. The Or ha'Chayim also records this explanation in his second approach.
