DAF DISCUSSIONS - SHEKALIM 2

Jack Samad asked:

I am managing to do Daf Yomi on my own with the help of the Artscroll Gemara. However, as you may well be aware, there is as yet no edition out for Shekalim and I am not aware of any other English translation. As this is a very small Masechet is there any possibility of having a word by word translation as well as your detailed explanations.

The Kollel replies:

Dear Jack,

We are doing our best to put together the Daf-Background in such a way that it can be used in place of a word by word translation. Together with Rabbi Chyrsler's Daf-Review, the bulk of each Daf is available in English, although not word by word as you requested. There is one English translation of the Masechet (a very hard task to accomplish!) in Artscroll Talmud form (but not put out by Artscroll), written by Rabbi Yakov Shulman of Brooklyn, NY under the name "Mechon Yerushalmi," I believe.

In many parts of the world, the "Kol ha'Daf" tapes, with a 60 minute Shi'ur on each Daf, are available for purchase or borrowing, or hearing on telephone. Call 718-436-4999. Also, those tapes have been incorporated into a CD called "CD-Daf" which has become available this week. Also, one can order Rabbi Avraham Kozman's "Master Daf" tapes, in which he translates into English one Daf in about 20 minutes. I believe that his tapes are also available in CD form for listening (and viewing the Daf) on a personal computer. CAll 1-800-925-6853 for info, or 718-436-4999 (two different companies).

All the best,

Yisrael Shaw
