DAF DISCUSSIONS - NIDAH 21

Yossie Levitin asks:

Why is the womb sometimes referred to as Mekor, sometimes as Rechem and sometimes as Kever? Is there a significance or difference between each term?

Yossie Levitin , Spring Valley, New York

The Kollel replies:

"Rechem" is the Torah's translation of "womb." "Kever" is what the Rabanan call it, presumably, for reasons of Tzeni'us (to prevent immoral thoughts).

"Mekor" refers specifically to the section of the womb that produces Dam Nidus, as is evident in the current Sugya.
