DAF DISCUSSIONS - PESACHIM 5

ARI STERN asks:

Kvod HaRav,

According to Rav Nosson that Havara Lchalek Yoitzes, why did the Torah Hakedoshah choose the melacha of Havara to teach us this Limud, it could have done the same with any Melacha?

Yasher Koach.

Ari Stern

The Kollel replies:

This is the 8th of the 13 Midos of Rebbi Yishmael: Davar she'Hayah bi'Chlal v'Yatza Min ha'Klal l'Lamed....

That is, there are several items in a group and one of them is singled out in order to teach through it a specific law that applies to the entire group. We cannot ask why this item was singled out, because any item can be singled out to teach through it to all the others, and for this purpose any item can be used.

As to why the Torah mentions Hav'arah, see the Perushim on the Torah, Shemos 35:3: Ramban, Ba'al ha'Turim, Seforno, Da'as Zekenim, Klei Yakar, etc. For example, the Ramban says that the Torah wants to forbid even Melachos connected with food preparation, in contrast to Yom Tov.

All the best,

Reuven Weiner

Ari Stern adds:

Yasher Koach,

I did see in the Sefer Shaarei Ahron (multi volume set on Chumash Onkelos, Rashi),

He cites (do not recall who offhand), that, I may have thought that we would not incorporate Havaarah into the 39 Melachos, as Eish was first created Motzei shabbos Kodesh, and not in the Sheshes Yemie Hammaseh.
