DAF DISCUSSIONS - BECHOROS 2

Menachem Weiman asks:

Above the Rabbeinu Gershon commentary is a short tefila that spells Yitzchak. Why is there a tefila before Bechoros and not all mesechtas? Who is Yitzchak?

Menachem Weiman, St Louis USA

The Kollel replies:

Rabeinu Gershom did not actually write this commentary, according to modernday scholars. Rather, it was written by his Yeshiva in Mayence using his interpretations. One of Rabeinu Gershom's senior disciples was Rabeinu Yitzhak ben Yehudah, who was also related to him. Rabeinu Yitzhak was also one of Rashi's teachers and presumably wrote this poem at the beginning of the commentary.
