Yaakov Rubinstein asked:

The gemara seems to learn both 1 parent individually is enough to be oveir on oso v'es b'no but it then later uses oso to exclude fathers from the la'av. How could this be?

Yaakov Rubinstein, Woodmere USA

The Kollel replies:

I'm not sure which Gezeiras ha'Kasuv in the Gemara you are referring to which states that from the word "Oso" either parent is enough (unless you are talking about Chananya, or mistook the Gezeiras ha'Kasuv of excluding "Shor v'Seh u'Bno" as meaning both parents aren't necessary, when the Gemara is just excluding the need for both species mentioned in the Pasuk and one of their kids).

All the best,

Yaakov Montrose
