DAF DISCUSSIONS - CHULIN 12

Barry Epstein asked:

1. It quotes Zevachim 2a that intent is required.

2. It quotes Tosafos that offerings done with no specific intent are just as valid.

Halachah?

Barry Epstein, Dallas, USA

The Kollel replies:

When slaughtering Korbanos, the *wrong* intent can indeed invalidate the Korban, to a greater or lesser extent. However, if the Korban is slaughtered *without* any intent, the Korban is valid, since the Korban is "expected" to be brought Lishmah ("Setama Lishmah"), see Zevachim 2b.
