DAF DISCUSSIONS - MENACHOS 88

Yakov asks:

Shalom.

How can R'Nechemia and R' Eleazar Ben Yakov learn this second din - that a minchah is a minimum of an asiron? The limud for this din is that one must bring the amount of flour that requires a log of oil, at minimum - and that is an asiron. But this is only true according to the Chachamim. According to these tanaim, all m'nachos require exactly a log, regardless of how much flour is brought. What am I missing?

Yakov, Toronto

The Kollel replies:

Shalom Rav,

The fact is that an Isaron, which is the smallest recorded size of a Minchah, requires a Log of oil. Presumably, a Minchah comprising less than an Isaron would require less oil. That is why the Gemara says that one cannot bring a Minchah that requires less than a Log of oil. It is not because the Tana'im hold that one Log will suffice for more than one Isaron that they will also require one Log for less than an Isaron.

B'Virchas Kol Tuv,

Eliezer Chrysler
