DAF DISCUSSIONS - HORAYOS 14

Dovid Cohen writes:

Here is a hadran for you to celebrate the end of Nezikin, from the Kaf Hachayim (Yagel Yakov) .

The gemara concludes with the question over who was greater between rav zeira and rabba bar rav masna. rav zeira was sharp, rabba bar rav masna was thoughtful and reached a conclution in the halacha.

What doubt exists here? Is this not the same question which the gemara had earlier asked between rabba and rav yosef, where rabba was 'oiker horim' and rav yosef was sinai, seemingly rabba was sharp in his learning and rav yosef had the ability to pasken shaalos due to his knowledge, and the conclusion was that rav yosef was greater.

The kaf hachaim quotes the gemara in bava metzia where rav elazar disputes with the chachamim over the oven of Achnai. Amid open miracles rav elazar had to agree to the chachamim. Tosfot asks why this is different to the arguments between bet shammai and bet hillel, where bet shammai were sharper and bet hillel were the rov, where we follow the bat kol that said the halacha is like bet hillel. The conclusion there is that we follow bet hillel, whose knowledge was greater in psak than bet shammai, this seemingly is the same point as our gemara, where rav yosef was greater than rabba. However rav zeira and rabba bar rav masna was not the same point, because rabba bar rav masna was matun umasik, meaning he thought carefully about the question, and would eventually give the right answer, not straight away as rav yosef, this perhaps is the difference between the case above.

we ask Hash-m , hadran alach kohen mochiach, bring us brack the kohen gadol, and selika (meaning we will go up) in horayot, meaning we will no longer make errors as we do in today's exile, we will pasken correctly and not require any of the korbanot from this masechta.
