gabriel shagabayev asks:

whats the difference between shti "warp" and Erev "woof"?

gabriel shagabayev, brooklyn

The Kollel replies:

Dear Gabriel,

I hope you have some idea about the weaving process. If not, first find a picture of a loom. The Shti is the row of strings lying on the upper bar of the loom and drawn down to the lower bar. The Erev strings one by one are sent through the Shti strings at a 90 degree angle, over-under, over-under, which creates the weave.

The Erev strings are thicker than the Shti, as they are under tension when thrown through the line of Shti strings.

All the Best,

Reuven Weiner
