DAF DISCUSSIONS - SHABBOS 26

dh asks:

The Gemara says that only wool and linen can become Tamei with Tzaraas. Doesnt the Pasuk mention leather as well?

dh, lakewood nj

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara does not say that only wool and linen can become impure with Tzara'as, as this would contradict an explicit Pasuk (Vayikra 13:48), as you mentioned. Rather, the Gemara is discussing the definition of the term Beged, and deriving from the Pasuk (Vayikra 13:47) that anytime the word Beged is stated it refers solely to clothing made of wool or linen.

All the best,

Yaakov Montrose
