DAF DISCUSSIONS - SHABBOS 8

Mendel asks:

Lets say a 7' tall person who has a 4 amos (wing span)reach side to side picks up an object with his rt hand over his head (above 10T) & puts it down with his left 4 amos apart without ever moving his body is he chyav , he never moved.

Please explain according Rashi & R"C in Tosfes

Mendel, Brooklyn, NY

The Kollel replies:

Shalom Rav,

There is no Machlokes regarding the case you mention, which is similar to the case on Daf 5b, in which someone carries from a shop to a main street via a shelter, which is Chayav according to all opinions.

The Machlokes between Rabeinu Chananel and Rashi is whether that is the case to which Rava is referring (Rashi) or not (Rabeinu Chananel). According to Rabeinu Chananel, Rava is talking about a case where the person transfers an article from one side to the other via his body without stopping in the middle.

According to this understanding, Tosfos should be straightforward to understand. Please let me know if you still have difficulty with it.

Kol Tuv,

Eliezer Chrysler
