DAF DISCUSSIONS - SOTAH 23

Moshe Indik asked:

The gemara brings a pasuk to proove that ha`ish niskal arum. the pasuk says V`hotzaiso es ha`ish etc. and rashi brings another pasuk to proove they both get skilah. Why does rashi have to bring the extra pasuk if it is straight in the gemara?

Moshe Indik, Lakewood, NJ

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara cites the Pasuk "ve'Ragmu Oso", from which it learns "Oso", 've'Lo Osah', precluding women from the Din of being stoned without clothes.

Rashi asks how we know that the Pasuk is not coming to teach us that women are not stoned at all, as the words seem to imply?

To which he replies by citing the Pasuk "u'Sekaltem Osam ba'Avanim", from which we know that women are subject to stoning too. Consequently, "Oso" must be coming to preclude women from being stoned without clothes (just like the Gemara says), and not to preclude them from being stoned at all.
