DAF DISCUSSIONS - YEVAMOS 66

eliezer lipsky asked:

on daf 66 amud alef rava says the reason why avdi melog of cohen who married a gerusha, or cohen godel who married an almuna is maybe the wife will say i,m a zona and will want out. Since this is a marridge that the torah doesn't want why is rava concerned about this?

The Kollel replies:

Your question puzzles me. Let me explain why.

Ravina has just explained that Avdei Milug of a Gerushah l'Kohen Hedyot or of an Almanah l'Kohen Gadol may not eat Terumah because, since their owner cannot eat Terumah, she cannot feed them either.

Rava disagrees. In his opinion, min ha'Torah, they are permitted to eat Terumah (despite the fact that their owner is not), and it is the Rabbanan who forbade them to eat Terumah. Why? To encourage their owner to say that if she cannot eat Terumah, and neither can her Avadim, she must be a Zonah, and she had better leave the marriage (just as the Torah wants her to).

What problem do you have with that?
