DAF DISCUSSIONS - YEVAMOS 60

Miriam asks:

If a cohen has a son with a divorced woman, out of wedlock, is this child a cohen or his status is chalala ...or....????

Miriam, Jerusalem,Israel

The Kollel replies:

The child is a Chalal since the mother is Pesulah to Kohanim whether with marriage or without marriage. If the child is a girl, she may not marry a Kohen. For example, if a Kohen had a child from a woman who previously had relations with a Nochri (thereby transgressing the prohibition of Zonah), the child is a Chalal, and if a girl, she cannot marry a Kohen (Shulchan Aruch, Even ha'Ezer 6-7).
