DAF DISCUSSIONS - YEVAMOS 60

Yosef asks:

The rashash asks why they had to rely in the nes of the tzitz why didn't they use the natural barrel test? However the Gemara says that they used the tzitz to determine royeh libiah not if she was a besula. The Barrel test was to see if she was a Beulah?

Yosef, Woodmere USA

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara upon which the Rashash asks his question is discussing the subject of B'nos Yavesh b'Gilad. Here the question was whether they had had relations whith a man. For this the barrel test would have been suitable.

Yosef asks:

Thanks. But didn't the Gemara say that it Benos yavash Gilad they used the barrel test? That's the part that confused me.

Yosef

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara indeed says that they used the barrel test, as you say. However, the Gemara asks why they did not use the test of the Tzitz. On this question of the Gemara, the Rashash asks that the Barrel test was preferable since it does not require a Nes, so why does the Gemara ask that they should have used the Tzitz. This implies that the Tzitz is preferable.
