DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 8

Mr. Mordechai Perlman asks:

The Gemara in Pesachim 113b interprets the verse that that discusses helping "one whom he hates" as discussing one whom he is permitted to hate.

Considering our Gemara which gives a recommendation to someone who does not submit to his Rebbe (and Rashi certainly implies that this is not correct) not to live near him, why does the Gemara in Pesachim not interpret the verse to be discussing someone who he hates unlawfully?

Mr. Mordechai Perlman, Jerusalem, Israel

The Kollel replies:

The student mentioned in the Gemara loves his Rebbi, but even so he finds it difficult to accept his rebuke. Therefore, we say that it is better for him to move away so that he should not be considered as deliberately neglecting the teachings of his Rebbi, for whom he personally has positive feelings.
