DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 8

Joshua L. Dachman-Soled asked:

I very much enjoy your thorough Insights to the Daf. I was looking at the "Insights" for Brachos 8 and wanted to point out something. In section 3 answer b you point out an explanation of the gemara's comment that someone who enjoys the work of his hands is better than someone who has fear of heaven. You quote this comment in the name of Rav Yosef Tendler. I believe that I heard this explanation is from the Shlah, although I don't have it infront of me at the moment. I think that the Bnei Yisaschar also quotes this and specifically applies to to someone who wants to be machmir not to rely on bittul. I learned both of these from my Rebbe, R' Baruch Simon, shlita. Perhaps you can add this to the website.

Thank you,

Joshua Dachman

The Kollel replies:

Thank you! The thought indeed appears in the Bnei Yisaschar, Adar 2:7, citing the Shelah in "Maseches Shavu'os" DH Tachlis ha'Limud. (The Maharsha in Chulin 44a also cites this explanation.)

We will indeed add it to our archives.

Best wishes,

Mordecai Kornfeld
