DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 5

Ric Weinstein asks:

I'm curious about the reference to "the gemorah" itself on a mud a, 1st wide line when quoting rav Shimon Ben Lakish. He lived about 250-300 years before the gemorah was actually compiled. How did he know the pasuk could reference this thing that wasn't "created" yet?

Thanks

Ric Weinstein , Monsey, NY

The Kollel replies:

Dear Ric,

The Gemara- "the reasoning which the Mishna is based on" (Rashi DH Ze Gemara)- was not written in his days, but the Gemara always existed orally.

All the best,
