This is more in the way of comment than question.
Although the context of the gemarra seems to be about the effects of very salty food, the story about it's effect on Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi reveals an almost classic case of Dementia - which most commonly today is from Alzheimer's disease.
This is not my first time around - but I had not noticed it so obviously before.
A man "loses his mind" wanders off, and a search party has to be sent out to bring him home, because he doesn't know where he is or how to get home.
This is a very common story today, as any doctor can tell you, it is very sad when it even happens to talmidei chachamim - let alone other very fine people, and among the increasing daf community there will be many whose elderly parents or grandparents have behaved in this manner, causing great distress to their children and grandchildren.
By the way, my grandson who just started Hesder yeshiva here in Israel, told me there are 4 groups in his yeshiva learning the daf!!!
