The pasuk quoted to prove that Dovid was not embaressed to ask Mipiboshes states "Neged M'lachim lo avosh" . Was Mipiboshes a king? Who was he aside from being Dovids rebbi?

The Kollel replies:

Mefivoshes in this context refers to Ishboshes, the son of Shaul ha'Melech. The Maharsha explains that the verse refers to him as a king, either because Talmidei Chachamim are called "kings" (Gitin 62a)or because he was from a kingly family.
