The Kollel replies:
The Ramban (Al ha'Torah Devarim 10:1) answers that Hash-m knew that the Luchos Rishonos were destined to be broken, so he did not command Moshe to make a box for them.
The Or ha'Chaim explains that the Luchos Rishonos did not need an Aron since they were on a higher spiritual level.
