DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 59

Barry Weinberger asked:

Since the g'marah says you make 2 b'rochos, Boruch Dadyan Haemes and Hatov V'Hametiv, the latter when there are other yorshim, what is the case if you are the only yoresh? Do you make Boruch Dayan haemes and Shehecheyanu?

Barry Weinberger, Cherry Hill, USA

The Kollel replies:

You are quite right. The Shulchan Aruch (223:2) does indeed rule that a sole heir recites 'Shehechiyanu'. The Biyur Halachah, however cites Poskim who maintain that, if he has a wife and children, who will also benefit from his inheritance, he recites 'haTov veHameitiv' anyway.
