DAF DISCUSSIONS - NIDAH 40

Avrohom asks:

The Gemara says that it makes more sense to learn from a Bchor than from a woman because there are five similarities with Bchor (six according to Rashba) and only four with a woman. Clearly each point counts. It seems strange though that three of the similarities are that Pigul, Nosar and Tamei apply. These are all applicable only to Kodshim. We've already listed Kodshim. How can you count the result of being Kodshim as additional points? Why not count Meilah applying?

The Kollel replies:

Sholom Rav,

Your questions are excellent. Your second question is asked by the Sefer Eizehu Mekoman. He writes, "Tzarich Iyun Tuva. Ha'Ika Tuva Dinim u'Pesulim b'Korban?"

Although he does not explicitly ask your first question, he explains that Pigul, Nosar, and Tamei are all details of Korban. Quoting the Ritva, he also mentions the question that Pigul, Nosar, and Tamei should be counted as one.

It seems to me that each detail concerning Korban strengthens the similarity between Bechor and Kodshim, and it is as if each one is considered another reason to compare Kodshim to Bechor against Adam. Indeed, the Gemara could have added to the list Me'ilah, together with various other Dinim that pertain specifically to Kodshim, but that since Pigul, Nosar, and Tamei(which are often listed together) suffice, it was not necessary to do so. As you write, they teach us that each point counts.

Kol Tuv,

Eliezer Chrysler
