What is the difference between
1) Chullin prepared on the taharah of terumah, and
2) Chullin prepared on the taharah of kodesh.
Are there any books in English which do a great job of explaining all the Biblical and Rabbinic laws of tumah?
Barry Epstein, Dallas, USA
Terumah becomes Tamei by coming in contact with a Sheni b'Tum'ah (second degree Tum'ah) or higher level, whereas Kodesh is defiled by coming in contact with even a Shelishi (third degree Tum'ah). Therefore, one who keeps and eats his Chulin with the Taharah of Kodesh must protect it from even a Shelishi.
We do not know of any books in English that explain all of the laws of Tum'ah (other than, perhaps, the commentary in the ArtScroll Gemara or Mishnah). There is an outstanding work in Hebrew, organized and indexed, called "Sha'arei Da'as."
