Based on our sugya it would appear that it is forbidden for one to practice "illusionary" magic.
What is the halacha nowadays where people perform magic tricks that are illusions?
Simcha Blatter
It is definitely forbidden. Rav Elyashiv said it is permitted only when we previously explain three or four tricks.

"Aseh Lecha Rav" 2:44 is cited in an article in the Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society (vol. 33 "Magic Shows" by Rabbi Moshe A. Bleich) as being lenient in this regard. Of course, the article also cites the many Poskim who to say the least frown upon the performance of magic, if not outright prohibit it, as well as the opinion mentioned by Rabbi Friedlander (in the name Poskim other than Rav Elyashiv).
