DAF DISCUSSIONS - SANHEDRIN 64

Gershon BenKalman asks:

When did the Anshei Knesset Gadol petition Hash-m to end idolatry and was there any correlation between that time and the end of prophecy? (Was there any causation?)

Gershon BenKalman, Seattle WA

The Kollel replies:

Shalom Rav,

The incident to which you are referring took place in the same year that they began building the second Beis ha'Mikdash, in 3408 (the current year is 5775). It was performed by the Men of the Great Assembly, which included the last prophets, Chagai, Zecharyah, and Mal'achi.

Considering that they had access to the Bas Kol (a minor form of prophecy) for the duration Of the second Beis ha'Mikdash, one can assume that the incident could just as well have taken place at a later stage.

B'Virchas Kol Tuv,

Eliezer Chrysler
