DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 45

brett asked:

When can someone answer amen to his/her own beracha?

brett , america

The Kollel replies:

There is a difference of opinion between the Shulchan Aruch (whom Sefardim follow) and the Rema (whom Ashkenazim follow). Our practice (as Ashkenazim) is to say Amen only after one's own blessing of "Boneh Yerushalayim" in Birkas ha'Mazon, and not after any other blessing.

See Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 215:1, Rema there, and Mishnah Berurah there. (If you still need assistance, you may write back to us.)
