In the story of the Ger who had converted on condition that he could become Kohen Godol, the Gemoro says that he reached the posuk "VeHazor Hakorev Yumas".
The note from Torah Ohr on the side of the Gemoro says that this posuk is in Bamidbar chap 1. As we read the Sedrah of Bamidbar last week, I noticed that in fact this posuk refers to the jobs of the Leviim. I checked my Concordance, and the phrase does in fact occur in other places refering to Kohanim - 2 later in Sedrah Bamidbar (1 in Korach etc.).
So, presumably:
1) The reference in the Gemoro would be more accurate to say Bamidbar 3,
OR
2) The Ger read the posuk about Leviim and made a Kal Vochomer to his case of Kohen Godol

I'm afraid I have nothing to add to your comments. All I can say is 'Nikarin Divrei Emes'.
